Budget Counseling with Jameel
Newsletters go out no more than once a week, providing Money Life organizing tips, and information on new and upcoming videos!
What is a Budget Counselor?
A Budget Counselor CAN…
…help you look at your financial situation objectively without emotion or limiting belief systems holding you back.
…help you determine what you can afford to apply to debt, and how much you can afford to save (as opposed to what you need to save).
…advise you on how to handle a money crisis. More money is not always the solution to a money crisis, and a Budget Counselor can help you look at your specific situation and consider additional options you may not have considered.
…help you become more financially aware of your day-to-day spending.
A Budget Counselor DOES NOT…
…make you “stick to a budget”. After reviewing the information YOU provide, YOU decide what YOU spend YOUR money on and when.
…equate to a Financial Advisor. Financial Advisors are wonderful for determining your investment and insurance needs. They will help you calculate what you need to save. If you’re planning on seeing a Financial Advisor, a Budget Counselor is a wonderful first step!
…equate to a Credit Counselor. A Budget Counselor doesn’t “clean up your credit”, however, we can advise you on the best way to handle debt based on your specific situation.
How does Budget Counseling work?
I ask questions that will help us Prog Out℠ your money! This is where we create a tool (a spreadsheet) that will allow me to get a “snap shot” of your day-to-day money life. This tool can work as a great resource for keeping your money life organized. Click here to read more about Progging℠ and how it can help you.
During the virtual appointment, I will grant you screen sharing access to my computer and we can discuss what I’m putting in the spreadsheet I will create. Upon completion of our session, I will email the spreadsheet to you.
Completing the spreadsheet usually takes about 20-30 minutes (if all the information is available). The rest of our time is spent discussing what information the spreadsheet provides.
From our discussion, we can answer questions like:
- How can I deal with this current money problem?”
- How much is available to save and/or invest?
- When can I be out of debt?
- How much extra money will I have in the future, and by when?
- Do I need additional income? Exactly how much and by when?
- and more…
How much will it cost?
The cost of a Budget Counseling session is $99, to be paid when you schedule your appointment. Any additional time is billed at $50/hour and I will send you an invoice after the session.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Click here to view my availability. Sessions are typically 60-90 minutes long. Once you choose a date and time that works for you, follow the prompts to book the appointment and enter payment information. You will receive an email confirmation, and I will be notified of our appointment. I will send you a link to a Google Meet. If you would prefer another method for communicating, no problem, just let me know.
What should I have ready for a Budget Counseling session?
If you’re able to answer these questions, you are ready for a Budget Counseling session! If gathering this information seems daunting – don’t worry, I can help you.
• What is the amount and due date for every bill you have?
• What is the net check amount of your paycheck?
• When will you get your next paycheck and how often do you receive it?
• How much money do you have in your checking account(s) right now?
I usually meet with clients over the phone or through video-chat and I would encourage you to have access to a computer with internet access during our meeting. During the appointment, I will grant you screen sharing access to my computer and we can discuss what I’m putting in the spreadsheet I will create. Upon completion of our session, I will email the spreadsheet to you.
